The Topwing Red Sparrow — also known by its Japanese name Suzaku — is a moving coil phono cartridge designed and built in Japan on a principle that fundamentally differs from conventional MC design: the straight flux, coreless generator. By eliminating the iron core from the generator circuit, Topwing removes the primary source of hysteresis distortion in conventional moving coil designs — the non-linear magnetic behaviour of the core material as the voice coil moves through the magnetic field. The result is a cartridge that measures and sounds uniquely transparent at high frequencies, with a noise floor and transient accuracy that challenges cartridges of far greater conventional ambition.
