Description
The TAD D700 is the disc source component in TAD’s Reference Series, replacing the highly regarded D600 with a new generation of transport mechanism and converter architecture. Like its predecessor, it supports SACD (both multichannel and stereo) alongside standard Redbook CD, with a drive mechanism isolated from the chassis by TAD’s vibration-control system and a discrete DAC section developed entirely in-house. Its designation in the Reference Series places it at the apex of TAD’s disc playback ambitions.
Beyond its disc-playing capability, the D700 functions as a fully featured standalone DAC, accepting external digital inputs via AES/EBU, coaxial, and optical connections. This dual role makes it the natural digital hub for a complete TAD Reference system, routing streaming, computer audio, and disc sources through a single reference-class converter and analogue output stage. All analogue outputs are implemented in balanced configuration, with separate power supply sections for the transport, digital, and analogue stages.
While dedicated long-form listening reviews are still in progress for this recently launched component, the D700 has been referenced in show reports and system demonstrations with the C700 preamplifier and M700 or M700S power amplification, consistently drawing praise for the completeness and authority of its presentation. For a reference TAD system, it is the definitive disc and digital source.
