TAD DA1000TX DAC

TAD’s Evolution-series reference DAC — built around a third-generation in-house asynchronous USB engine, an ultra-high-precision master clock, and parallel dual-differential conversion. A digital media centre engineered to render the recording, not the machine.

Description

The TAD DA1000TX is the Evolution-series standalone digital-to-analogue converter from Technical Audio Devices Laboratories — TAD’s answer to the demand for a reference DAC purpose-built for high-resolution streaming, computer audio, and external digital transports. Sharing conversion architecture with the D1000TX disc player but configured for continuous-duty DAC operation, the DA1000TX is designed around a single principle: preserve the artistic intent of the recording, without interpretation.

At the heart of the DA1000TX is TAD’s third-generation Asynchronous USB Communication Engine, developed entirely in-house. Where most rivals licence third-party USB modules, TAD has engineered its own — capturing PCM up to 384kHz / 32-bit and DSD up to DSD256 (11.2 MHz) with exceptional jitter rejection. Paired with the Ultra-High C/N Master Clock UPCG — an ultra-high-precision crystal generator derived from TAD’s reference-grade D600 — the signal path achieves a purity that reveals itself as silence between the notes.

Conversion is handled by parallel-connected, dual-differential D/A converter ICs — one pair per channel — feeding a discrete current-to-voltage (I/V) stage that holds composure at high slew rates. Independent toroidal power transformers serve the analogue and digital sections in isolation, eliminating the cross-contamination that constrains lesser designs. The analogue output stage is high-speed and low-noise, rendering transient bass with grip and recovering detail at the upper limit of audibility without hardness.

As a digital media centre, the DA1000TX is fully equipped. An XLR AES/EBU input, two coaxial S/PDIF inputs, and an optical input support standard broadcast and transport sources; the USB input unlocks the full high-resolution library. A line-output volume control allows the DA1000TX to drive a power amplifier directly, shortening the signal path to its simplest form. A dedicated discrete headphone amplifier — with its own independent power supply and discrete output buffer — extends the DA1000TX’s performance to personal listening without compromise.

In Epiphany Audio’s TAD reference systems, the DA1000TX partners naturally with the C700 or C1000 preamplifier and M700 / M700S / M1000 power amplifiers, forming a digital front-end of uncommon transparency. For those building a reference TAD system around streaming or computer audio, it is the definitive gateway.

Finishes

  • TAD-DA1000TX-S — silver, standard production
  • TAD-DA1000TX-K — piano-black, built to order

Connectivity

  • 1× XLR AES/EBU digital input
  • 2× coaxial S/PDIF inputs (RCA)
  • 1× optical digital input (TOSLINK)
  • 1× USB Type B input — third-generation TAD Asynchronous USB Engine
  • 1× XLR and 1× coaxial digital outputs (for external processing)
  • Balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA analogue outputs
  • Front-panel 6.3 mm headphone jack with independent volume control

Integration

The DA1000TX ships with a dedicated aluminium remote. Its line-output volume control allows direct connection to a power amplifier for the shortest possible signal path — ideal for minimalist single-source systems. Alternatively, pair with a TAD C700 or C1000 preamplifier for a full reference TAD system.
